On Monday, RTNDA announced the winners of the 2009 National Edward R. Murrow Awards.
On the television side, NBC won a total of five Murrows including the
award for Overall Excellence in the Television Network category for Nightly News with Brian Williams.
RTNDA had the opportunity to speak with Williams about the state of
NBC, the digital revolution and what it takes to succeed in journalism.

Every reporter knows the admonition to "follow the money," but when
there's $800 billion to follow, the job may seem
overwhelming. Not to worry. We have a trail map.
This is a particularly good time to focus in on state spending
because the law required states to commit at least 50 percent of the
transportation funds allotted under the plan by June 29. And according to one interest

Out the window I could see the suburbs of Detroit slip by, followed
by a brief crossing of Lake Saint Clair. Then, as it moved in under
us, I could see the orderly fields and neat highways stretching out

The
Radio-Television News Directors Association announces the 2009 National Edward
R. Murrow Award winners. The awards honor excellence in electronic journalism.
NBC News earned five Murrow awards, including the award for Overall
Excellence. CBS Evening News received the award for network newscast. 60 Minutes
was honored in three categories: Hard News Feature, Feature Reporting and
Investigative Reporting.
In network radio, CBS News Radio won five awards, including its
third consecutive award for Overall Excellence. The award for newscast went to
ABC News Radio.
In all, 54 news organizations are being honored with 79
awards.

On Wednesday RTNDA announced the winners of the 2009 National
RTNDA/UNITY awards. Among the winners was a piece titled “The Evolution
Of Native American Boarding Schools,” reported by NPR’s Charla Bear.

so. The piece looks at the history of American Indian
boarding schools and explores how they’ve evolved in recent years.
Bear, who identifies herself in part as an Alaska Native, recently
