UNITY 2008 opened Wednesday night against the backdrop of cultural music and dance highlighting four cultures and celebrating the convergence of those cultures. Chicago's Mayor Richard M. Daley welcomed the nearly 6,000 registered journalists of color to the city, and sent a message to journalists in responsibility in the media. The Opening Ceremony of UNITY featured cultural dances from each of the groups represented by the organization. The energizing dances captured the attention of the audience. Watch video of the dance here.

Just a day after Washington Times reporter Bill Gertz appeared before a federal judge in California and was told he would not be forced to divulge his sources in
a two-year-old Chinese espionage story, his paper ran this editorial Friday on the need for a federal shield law. Across town the Washington Post ran this editorial on the subject on Thursday.
RTNDA is a part of the coalition to pass the federal shield law.
